2011 is the year of the bibliographing Reading Challenge! My readers can challenge me to read something along with them, and then post about it together. See this introductory post for the rules.
Completed Challenges
- Matt of Bob Einstein’s Literary Equations challenged me to read two books. Here, he reads Patrick Somerville’s The Universe in Miniature in Miniature, which I posted on here and here. Later, I reviewed Unclean Jobs for Women and Girls, a collection of short stories by Alissa Nutting, which Matt posted about here.
- BC challenged me to read Hermann Broch’s heavy and brilliant The Death of Virgil, a four-movement symphony of a novel.
- BC intrepidly began our read with an overview of Broch as well as one of the novel.
- I was the first to attack part I, followed by BC, who also adds some data analysis.
- Part II: me and BC.
- Part III: this time BC is first again, then my take on what was probably the easiest section of the novel.
- BC posts on part IV, and I give my final thoughts on the book.
- Amateur Reader challenged me to read “anything Ubu,” (which for me turned out to really mean Tout Ubu) a challenge we opened up to everyone as The Anything Ubu Readalong Opportunity.
- My posts included an overview, and a discussion of Ubu Cuckolded; one about Ubu Enchained; a dive into the almanacs contained in Tout Ubu; and a bit more from that compendium from Jarry.
- AR, like me, started with the play’s opening night; discussed how it should be acted; explores Ubu’s monstrousness; really gets somewhere with Ubu Enchained; and finishes off with the last scene of Ubu Cuckolded.
- Rise also joined in with a much-too-good post that made far too many intelligent arguments.
- Mel asked whether Jarry was Camp.
- And Sarah took Ubu to the beach, with mixed results.
(Have I missed you? Please let me know!)
