Sunday Salon

Sunday SalonWell, I’ve certainly been quiet lately; I’m undergoing a bit of a crisis of confidence regarding blogging. I’m sure it will pass, and I’m hoping it passes enough this afternoon for me to get my act together for this coming week. After all, I have still been reading.

Of course, what I’ve been reading doesn’t really help matters. A few weeks ago now I read “The Piazza” and, smitten, swore off all that was not Melville. Typee and Omoo are behind me, and now Mardi has stolen my heart. But things that really do me in leave me mute. Well, I will try.

Also, I need more time. Between work and the holidays (and the fact that today I bought a new toy, a fabric steamer!), I just can’t get as much done as I’d like to. And, um, a bunch of this Melville is pretty long.

  • Well, this is exciting. Mardi, really? All right!

  • Um, just a bit long. I think that it is fantastic that you are just letting yourself read without being too concerned about the burden of blogging. A fabulous idea! Claire at Kiss a Cloud has been adopting the same philosophy for a while now, and I am enjoying her blog all the more for it. Condensed but insightful impressions of her reads offered up as time and motivation permit. Tempted to do the same. Happy Melville reading!

  • I hate confidence crises in blogging; I suspect they attack every one from time to time, though. I always settle down into the fact that it’s not a contest but a venue for self expression, and hopefully someone will find something worthy in what I write. It is good to talk books with one another.

Thanks for visiting me today, and good luck with folding a few of those bookmarks! ;)
