Today’s question: LT and RL (real life)- do you have friends in real life that you met through LibraryThing? Have you attended any LT meet-ups in your area? Would you be open to attending meet-ups or is LT strictly an online thing for you?
I don’t have any real-life friends that I met through LT, but I did go to a meet-up a few weeks back organized around the Newberry Library Book Fair. That was a good time, particularly since four of the five of us had been “around” on LT since its first month in existence and were, I think, pretty “familiar” with each other. That’s the only time I’ve ever done any kind of online-to-real-life thing, but it was fun and not at all scary.
The way I found LT initially though was through real-life friends. I happened, somehow, to find an old high school classmate on the site also and reconnected somewhat with him. And later, I found I shared an awful lot of linguistics books with another user—who turned out to be a former college classmate, gone off to get his Ph.D. on the other side of the continent.

Would love to accidentally meet up friends from school or college but none of them appear to be readers or writers so never have but it does give me an idea to put a note on my blog
Lol it would be neat to find out that one of my fellow LTers was a RL person. I did actually have somebody friend me the other day who lives in my town- I’m not sure if I know them but I’m sure we have acquaintances in common.
