New Old Markson

Via The Elegant Variation, this morning I found out about a new (to me) old David Markson novel, The Ballad of Dingus Magee. This one is all over the Amazon wishlist now. Strike that, it’s in the cart.

For those of you unfamiliar with Markson, pick up a copy of Vanishing Point immediately! It’s gorgeous and like nothing you have ever read. But before Markson wrote wild and crazy postmodern experimental fiction, he wrote three genre novels, including two mysteries (which are wonderful for fans of noir) and the above-mentioned Dingus Magee, a Western.

I’ve never read a Western before. This should be fun.
